In this workshop we talk about how to set gentle, habits-based goals for the season ahead of you.

What we'll cover:
- Common goal-setting pitfalls.
- Process-oriented vs. outcomes-oriented goals.
- Setting priorities based on the season vs. the year.
- 6 questions that can help you find focus.

HOW TO GENERATE IDEAS

This workshop will discuss how to generate new ideas in your creative practice through setting "enabling constraints." Enabling constraints are conditions that allow us to play with a sense of purpose and protection. The workshop will identify 3 ways to establish constraints using the 3Ms - the material, the multiple, and the mirror.

HOW TO STAY INSPIRED

What actually inspires you? Maybe it’s not something in the arts, but science fiction, philosophy, gardening or horror? We’ll look at what you’re curious about, WHY, and create some research tools that motivate you to dig deeper into ideas that will nourish you.

Managing Overwhelm on your projects

In this workshop we talk about the generate stage of the creative process, specifically about experiencing overwhelm.

We'll talk about:

- What exactly is overwhelm?

- Common misbeliefs about generate.

Developing a CREATIVE Process

Developing a process that works is important for any artist. In this workshop, I’ll share the 5-stages of my creative process and how I use this framework to move within various mediums. We’ll use this model to help you identify your creative process and where you might be getting stuck.

How to Experiment

How do you like to experiment as an artist? In this workshop we’ll explore the “Play” stage of the creative process - the stage centered on testing, exploring, learning. We’ll discuss the way you naturally like to explore new ideas and how you can leverage that inclination to begin a project.

Creative ENDURANCE: HOw to stay INspired + Connected During Times of Uncertainty

What do we as artists need to stay motivated? Particularly during times of uncertainty? In this workshop we’ll reflect on our relationship to creative endurance - what we need to stay inspired by and engaged with our work and who it serves. We’ll talk about the importance of 5 variables - Routine, Novelty, Encouragement, Permission, and Service - and how these things help us thrive.

 

Talking and Writing About Your Work

Being able to clearly communicate your motivations to others is essential for creating exhibition, funding, and partnership opportunities. In this workshop we'll give you foundational tools in this arena. You will:

  • Learn a framework for writing a clear and accessible artist statement

  • Learn do's and dont's of writing about your art

  • Learn how to conduct a studio visit

 

The Idea Funnel

In this workshop, we talk about the brainstorming stage of the creative process, and how to use the idea funnel to find clarity in your new ideas.

 

Making Money and Making Art

In this workshop, we talk about:

  • Common making money / making art problems

  • Your Art Blocks and your Money Blocks

  • Your MM/MA Venn Diagram.

 

Finding and Creating Opportunities for Your Work.

We'll talk about:
- How to get your work into the world.
- What's a good opportunity for YOU and your specific goals.
- How to tackle your low-hanging fruit vs. over-engaging in lottery systems (i.e. expensive open calls!)
