Taking action for future you.

Lioness, Ink on paper, 18" X 24", 2025

Hey artists.

This is my last month before I check-out for maternity leave and it's been a surprisingly busy one.

I'm sending work out to shows in LA and Marfa; packing up work for a few collectors; and closing the loop on lots of conversations with a "Hey, catch you this fall!" I'm finalizing some submissions and sending out a grant application or two for 2026.

Basically, I'm doing some final "generating" before a massive period of rest and reflection (and family time).

Why am I doing this?

Because I'm staying connected to my "big vision" plan. I'm planting seeds and keeping irons in the fire so FUTURE me (one who is healed, has a sleeping baby, and a kid in childcare) can return to this work with some momentum. Because I haven't given up on my big vision as an artist, regardless of the SEASON I'm in, which is more about family.

How often are you taking action as an artist with "Future You" in mind?
With patience and a plan?

VS.

How often are you reacting to things last minute?
Frantically?
Without a bigger plan in place?

This is something many artists struggle with: making a plan. I see it everrrrrrrrry day in my coaching work. They struggle with not just making the plan, but STICKING with the plan.

Why? Because It's easier and more comfortable to react to things in front of you. And often those things don't align with what you really want for your practice. So, think about this:

What does "Future You" want for your practice?

In 5 years from now, what is an opportunity you would like to have in front of you? What is something you can do TODAY to set yourself up for success?

If you struggle with this question, check out this podcast on goal setting or our fall Reach Your Goals coaching program.
